Happy International Women’s Day! This influential day is all about honoring and supporting the phenomenal women in our lives and around the world. For women, it is also important to use today to look inward at how we are celebrating ourselves, our accomplishments, and our goals.

IWD has grown immensely over the past decade with the help of immense social media adoption, powerful content coming from all over the globe, and widespread awareness. Did you know that IWD has been around since the early 1900s? Learn more about IWD history here.

We are so proud to have so many innovative and hardworking women on our team at Gossip Genie.

The Genie team shared the words that motivate them today. Take a second to learn a little bit about what inspires them and their connection to IWD!

“Women are always saying, ‘We can do anything that men can do.’ But men should be saying, ‘We can do anything that women can do.’ “ – Gloria Steinem

I’m constantly striving to be more like the women in my life, including all the incredible Gossip Genie women I work alongside. I truly believe women are inherently stronger, more capable, and overall 1000% more essential than men and this quote definitely defines that. I’m constantly asking myself what the women in my life would do and women have always been a deep source of inspiration and admiration to me and having women as role models my whole life has only made me a better person.

“I just love bossy women. I could be around them all day. To me, bossy is not a pejorative term at all. It means somebody’s passionate and engaged and ambitious and doesn’t mind leading.” – Amy Poehler

The word bossy is often used in a disparaging way to describe women in leadership roles—I love how Amy Poehler takes the term and flips it on its head.

“The measure of achievement is not winning awards. It’s doing something that you appreciate, something you believe is worthwhile”-  Julia Childs

I’ve always admired her because she broke a lot of barriers for women during the time she was alive. Not only was she enlisted in the OSS during WWII, but she learned to cook later in life, her show was aired unedited to show that cooking should be fun and not centered around perfection, and I just like that she was kinda a badass who didn’t really care what people thought about her and just did what she was passionate about.

“The idea that a woman can be as powerful as a man is something that our society can’t deal with. But I am as powerful as a man, and it drives them crazy.” – Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

AOC is unapologetically dedicated to creating a better world, and she’s not afraid to challenge those in power to make the world a more accessible place for everyone. Like just oozes HBIC energy and I really live for that. Also, shes a Libra and so I stan just for that alone.

“The journey is what brings us happiness, not the destination” – My Mom

I’m always inspired by my Mom in so many ways. This quote might not be originally hers but it’s one I found in a notebook from her time living in Japan in her 20s. These words have stuck with me. In this day and age, we all have become increasingly obsessed with reaching different destinations whether it be in status or in our professional lives. We sometimes lose track of enjoying the small moments and things that make life so great.

“Radical self-love summons us to be our most expansive selves, knowing that the more unflinchingly powerful we allow ourselves to be, the more unflinchingly powerful others feel capable of being. Our unapologetic embrace of our bodies gives others permission to unapologetically embrace theirs.” – Sonya Renee Taylor
