Today I am here to tell you all the reasons your brand should be utilizing Pinterest. I know what you’re thinking – Did I suddenly travel back in time to 2010? Ha. Nope.

Pinterest is kind of like the middle child of online platforms – we know she exists, but she definitely doesn’t get the attention she deserves. (Can you tell this is being written by an actual middle child? Not bitter, just #relatable).

The reason a lot of marketers are not utilizing Pinterest to its full potential is because they don’t understand what it is. Jenna Kutcher said it best – Pinterest isn’t social media, it’s a search engine.  Think of Pinterest the same way you would Google or any other search engine. Keywords and descriptions will help guide people to your website, except this time it is via pins. With this in mind, it is much easier to understand why you should be utilizing Pinterest in your business practice.

Below we’ve compiled a list of reasons Pinterest should be taken off the backburner and added to your marketing strategy this year.

1. Website Traffic

Like I mentioned earlier, Pinterest is just another search engine. No matter if I am planning for a vacation or trying to find a new recipe, Pinterest is one of the first places I am going to look. When Pinterest users jump on the platform, they are looking for pins that fulfill a need of some sorts. They are looking to be inspired, discover new products, and more. If your pins impact your target audience in the right way, you can quickly turn these idle browsers into buyers. You can direct each pin you create to a specific landing page on your website. And if a Pinterest user is interested in your pin, they’ll click on the image to learn more. Which brings me to my next point.

2. More sales

Pinterest is a platform users go to specifically when they are planning to purchase something. This means they are far more likely to buy than someone you target an Instagram ad to, who might not even be looking or interested in your product/service. Because they are already a potential buyer, you don’t have to work as hard to convince them to buy.

And to top it all off, people on Pinterest tend to earn more money than those on other social media platforms. You truly cannot go wrong.

3. SEO

All marketers know SEO is integral to your brand’s success. An easy way to boost SEO? Pinterest.

You can optimize your pins on Pinterest with different keywords, hashtags, and more to boost your pin’s success and get you higher up on that Google search page.

While there are lots of great reasons to have your business join Pinterest, it isn’t for everyone. Just like any other online platform, it is important to know where your audience is hanging out – this is where you should invest your time/efforts. If your target audience is primarily men in their 40s, Pinterest is not going to be your bread and butter. However, if your target audience is millennial women, you should absolutely be on Pinterest.
