At some point before May of 2014 rolls around, you will at least hear one of your friends mention this movie title: X-Men: Days of Future Past. The now in-production film from Fox Studios and Marvel Entertainment has been ramping out viral campaigns via social media of their beloved superhero team, and it has people talking about the film so much that trends show it could very well be the blockbuster film of 2014 – some even say it may surpass the box office numbers of The Avengers.

Having a star-studded lineup helps (Jennifer Lawrence, Hugh Jackman, Peter Dinklage, to name a few), but it’s what Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer is doing on Twitter that has comic book fans (and non-comic book fans alike) partying like it’s 1999!

The days of waiting for a film’s official trailer to get audiences hyped up are long gone. Singer took that mind-frame and threw it out the window. From pre-production, to filming and odds are post-production, he has given audiences a real behind-the-scenes look at how his movie is being made. In an interview with the Huffington Post, Singer briefly touched on why he chose Twitter to connect with fans:

“I decided that the next time I got myself involved in a movie that had a huge amount of attention already that I would use Twitter. As a way of connecting with fans, principally. And also as a way of clearing up misunderstandings so that people know. You know, they may hear that an actor is cast or hear somebody is going to be in it, but until I say it’s so, that’s the confirmation.”

Social media has the power to send a message to millions of people at once. By tweeting on a daily basis, Singer has captured the true essence of what social media is all about: creating conversation. The buzz, viewer anticipation, engagement and publicity social media creates is phenomenal! And by keeping his audience in the loop of what he’s doing, fans will be treated to seeing a film from start to finish — literally. And all it took was this tweet to get the party started:
