I read a tweet on Sunday night during the Super Bowl that basically summed up one of the main reasons I love Twitter for personal use. It read: “Twitter is at its best when everyone is watching the same thing.” When I thought about the ways I use my own Twitter account, it is completely true. Twitter has somewhat made DVR less desirable. This relates to something known as FOMO; Fear Of Missing Out. For example, the tweets coming through during the airing of The Bachelor on Monday nights are way more entertaining than the show itself. If I am watching The Bachelor the next day, I won’t be able to partake in all the live tweeting fun.
There were tons of great Twitter moments during Sunday night’s game but the black out opened up a whole new territory. Let me introduce you to the Twitter account SuperdomeLights. Within moments of the lights going out, some social media genius decided to make a Twitter account for the lights themselves. I listed some of my favorites. As you can see, it was hard for me to narrow it down.
These opportune moments aren’t new in the Twitterverse….
Remember Angelina Jolie’s leg? – @AngiesRightLeg
Or Mitt Romney’s binders full of women.- @RomneysBinder
And we can’t forget NBC insisting on tape delays for major Olympic events. They were asking for this one. – @NBCDelayed
