1. Sara Blakely

Blakely is the founder of Spanx, so basically I owe her everything I have. Just kidding – sort of. Aside from revolutionizing the way I look in bodycon dresses, Blakely has a whole slew of accomplishments under her belt. When she was first looking to patent Spanx, there were no female patent lawyers in her state so Blakely went to Barnes and Noble and learned how to apply for a patent herself. Fast forward to today, Spanx now encompasses so much more than just compression panythose and Blakely has built a billion-dollar company in less than two decades. Now a mom of four, Blakely says it’s her calling to “support women.” Her Instagram feed is the perfect mix of inspirational posts and everyday moments for you to scroll through. Oh, and she’s met Oprah. #goals

2. Misty Copeland

Growing up, I always wanted to be a ballerina but I wasn’t blessed with coordination. To compensate for my loss, I follow Misty Copeland on Instagram. This tough chick has broken so many barriers as the principal dancer for the American Ballet Company and is an inspiration for all. Copeland is a great example of all the good that can come from working hard for your dreams. Follow her on Instagram now if you want to spend the next 5 hours trying to master a plié. Not that I’ve tried or anything.

3. Lauren McGoodwin

If you’ve ever searched for career advice online, chances are you’ve run into McGoodwin’s site, Career Contessa. McGoodwin got the inspiration to start Career Contessa when she realized there just wasn’t very many career resources that were specifically targeted towards women. Over the years, Career Contessa has grown into a one-stop shop for all your career needs, whether you’re looking for advice, job listings, webinars, interview tips and more. All because one woman saw a need and fulfilled it.

4. Tess Holliday

I’ve been following Tess Holliday on Instagram for as long as I can remember. In addition to being a mom of two, a full-time plus sized model, and an accomplished author, Holliday still finds time to spread messages of body positivity online. In today’s modern world, women feel especially pressured to look and act a certain way. Holliday is a breath of fresh air during these times. She is comfortable in her own skin and loves herself – a message that every person could benefit from hearing.

5. The GG Ladies (Jacqui, Taryn, Lizz and Janelle)

I couldn’t make a list of inspirational women and not include the ones who inspire me every single day! Each one of these ladies is exactly the type of woman I hope to one day become. They’re hardworking, creative, kind, witty – I could go on for days. I am constantly blown away by the work they produce and just who they are as people. They are 4 of the 6 reasons it is so great to be a Genie!
