Every now and then I like to ask my coworkers about the books they’ve been reading. Not only do I get the 4-1-1 on what to read next but I also get to know which of my coworkers are boring in and out of the office. It’s truly a win/win.

Here’s what the Genies have been reading lately. 👇

The Spider and the Fly – Lizz

Read If: You’re okay with reading a book that has Amazon reviews that start off with sentences like, “Close but no cigar,” or, “Not worth reading.”

Synopsis:  A female journalist describes her encounters with a local serial killer and the “darkness we each have inside of us.” Which like, cool… but not to be dramatic or anything but I definitely don’t have the same amount of darkness within me as a serial killer. Can’t confirm for sure though.

“It’s creepy. That’s all I got.” – Lizz when asked to describe the book

Where the Crawdads Sing – Taryn

Read If: You’re over a year behind on Reese Witherspoon’s book club.

Synopsis: Honestly, I read the description of this book no short of 30 times and I still couldn’t succinctly tell you what this book is about. It sounded wet though – like that sticky kind of wet you get the second you land in Florida. I bet that is how you feel when you read this book.

The Fault in Our Stars – Hope

Read If: You’re a Pisces or Cancer and love 👏 to 👏 cry! 👏

Synopsis: If you didn’t read this book in 2014 what were you doing? I’m not even going to give you a synopsis because everyone has read this book. There’s two sick kids and one of them dies. I’m not going to tell you which one though just in case you haven’t read it but it’s definitely Augustus Waters who dies.

I Like to Watch: Arguing My Way Through the TV Revolution – Anthony

Read If: You fantasize about leaving it all to become the next Andy Cohen.

Synopsis: Why watch TV when you can read about it? That’s basically what this book is. But I don’t think it has the most iconic moment of television – when Teresa Giudice flipped the table on Danielle Staub – so, although I personally have never read it, I cannot recommend it.

Outliers – Malcolm Gladwell

Read If: You always thought you were smart in school because you were in the advanced reading class but you weren’t actually that smart you could just read fast and now you’re an adult and you’re not as special as you first thought and you’re really having trouble finding your place in the world.

Synopsis: Some people are successful, others aren’t. Our pal Malcolm is here to tell us why.

Behind Closed Doors – Brittany

Read If: You never want to be able to fully trust your partner/want to live in constant fear.

Synopsis: Okay, when I was reading the description of this book on Amazon, it mentioned how the main character’s friends were suspicious of her marriage because they noticed a bar on her bedroom window? Like, is that really what made them think, “Hm something isn’t right here?” Like there were no other warning signs before the BAR ON THE WINDOW? Kind of fake.

Frozen – Jacqui

Read If: You’re ready to go into the unknown. Just kidding – that’s from Frozen II and this is Frozen I. Don’t get ahead of yourself there, player.

Synopsis: Ice princess Elsa (obviously a Capricorn) is hiding a big secret from her sister Anna (probs a Gemini, she seems very flighty). And Anna is too desperate to get married like slow down, girl and live your life. Honestly, only worth reading for the snowman.
