Like or Love? You Choose.

LinkedIn recently introduced a new way to engage: reactions!

LinkedIn is the spot for professionals to share all things career related. From achievements to industry updates, users share a variety of career content. On April 11th, LinkedIn expanded its engagement horizons. In addition to ‘Liking’, users can choose from four new expressions: ‘Celebrate’, ‘Love’, ‘Insightful’ and ‘Curious’.

“One of the things we regularly hear from all of you is that you want more expressive ways than a ‘Like’ to respond to the variety posts you see in your feed,” said Cissy Chen, LinkedIn product manager. “When you post on LinkedIn, you want more ways to feel heard and understand why someone liked what you said.”

Imitation is Flattery.

The LinkedIn update is very similar to what we see on Facebook. For over three years, Facebook users have been engaging through its reaction feature. Although they are similar, the new reactions on LinkedIn are catered towards professionalism. These reactions aim to encourage conversation and improve community relationships.

Because of the update, LinkedIn users can more appropriately express their feelings. They can choose to ‘Celebrate’ a new job announcement or express how ‘Curious’ they are about an article. The new reactions are more accurate and personal than a simple ‘Like’. Plus, users will receive more valuable feedback on their posts.
