Social media plays a major role in the average person’s life—just imagine how significant it is for someone who has social media in their job title. At Gossip Genie, we live and breathe social 40 hours a week.

Here’s how working in digital marketing has had an affect on our personal channels:

Violet

I think the thing that has changed the most with my social media since starting at Gossip Genie isn’t the kind of content I’m posting (still posting cat pics 24/7 with no color theme!) but how often I use social media for personal use. Since I am on it so much for work, I use it more sparingly in my free time (still a lot, but a lot less than it used to be 3 years ago!)

Working at GG really upped my social game, but it also made me more aware of my online “presence” in general. I used to sort of just post randomly/the few times I got a good photo of myself, but now I find myself making a MUCH more curated effort to make sure my feed and stories are cohesive/represent me as a person! I think there are both pros and cons to that, and while I’ve had to stop myself from being obsessive at times, I also think it’s important that my profile reflects my skills as a SMM.

I definitely started posting a lot more since I started working at Gossip Genie. I also am continually learning new things to do with Stories and filters from my brilliant colleagues so I try to incorporate that into my Instagram presence as much as possible. My Instagram feed also consists of a lot of photos and content from Gossip Genie. Four out of my last 6 posts were Gossip Genie-related – always representing!

Bailee

I’ve only been working at Gossip Genie for a couple months so I haven’t seen a huge change in my personal social media yet. However, I am much more aware of the brands I am following and how they are positively or negatively using their social. I’m a bigger critic now.

Brittany

Working at Gossip Genie has changed the way I make my personal Instagram stories a lot! GG exposed me to a lot of cool apps and ways of styling them. My captions have changed a bit as well! They are more elevated and intentional.

Janelle

One thing that has changed on my personal IG since working at Gossip Genie are my IG stories. I am always looking for cool, new, artistic ways to post now and I love sharing BTS of photoshoots and events at work.

Mika

Before Gossip Genie, I would just post on social media very haphazardly without much thought. But once I started working here and seeing how my coworkers were bringing the same storytelling and artistry into their own personal content, I started to think twice about how I viewed my social media. I noticed that creating social media content was really beginning to stick in the back of my mind. I’ve started to look to my coworkers, people that I follow, and design in the world as inspiration for creating more cohesive storytelling in the content I’m posting.

Taryn

I think my social media behavior has changed in that I tend to post a lot less often than I used to because I’m so exhausted by social media by the time I get home! I used to care a lot about how my Instagram feed looked but now I’m much more concerned about how my client’s feeds look than my own.

Hope

My social media has definitely changed since working at GG. I have learned so many cool ways to design an Instagram story and have been introduced to a few apps that I like to use to switch them up from the ordinary. I also like to play around more with the tone and colors of my photos that I post after getting more experience with Lightroom. I also think a lot more about how my caption can catch the attention of whoever is scrolling past it.

Jacqui

Social media has shifted and changed so much since I started in the industry and I’ve been right there shifting and changing with it. My personal social media is a place where I share life’s moments in a way that best represents me. That being said, I always think about the skills we use everyday at Gossip Genie before I post.
